    Addictive Gaming

< >Rinnnggg... The school bell rang, signaling the end of school. The whole class cheered, grabbed their bags and rushed outside, quickly forming two straight lines. Miss Tan walked out and reminded her class, "Remember to do all your holiday homework, don't slack off!" Forty heads nodded and rushed to the stairs the minute Miss Tan dismissed them. I sighed. It was finally the end of the school year, and it was time for us to throw our school bags aside and relax... But what I did not expect was to be given holiday homework at the end of the year! Now I have to spend my december holidays buried in books! I sighed heavily again and waved good-bye to my friends. "Bye Nicole! You're going to go online when you go home, right?" Angelica shouted to me. I nodded my head. A smile immediately flickered on my face as I visualized myself in front of the computer online and playing my favourite game - 'Angels Online'. I had have not enough time for the past months to train my character in that game and this month was the perfect oppurtunity to train it! I decided to put my homework aside for a while and do it in my free time only. Now, with my parents overseas and the whole house to myself, I can now play my favourite game twenty four-seven!

< >I shoved the key into the keyhole and turned it hastily. Pulling the door open, I slid my feet out of my shoes and slammed the door behind me. I ran to the kitchen, removing my socks and throwing it into a nearby bucket. I stuck my head into the fridge and pulled out a bottle of coke. I grabbed a glass and a packet of potato chips, then settled myself in front of the computer, pouring a glass of coke for myself. Pushing the 'on' button on my CPU, I tore the bag of potato chips open and shoved a handful of chips into my mouth, at the same time gulping down coke. The moment the desktop appeared, I double-clicked the 'Angels Online' icon, typed in my password, and in a few seconds I was already happily clicking away.

< >It was already 1 AM and still I have my face glued onto the computer. A rumbling sound was heard as my stomach grumbled for the zillionth time today, since I had not eaten properly. I covered my mouth with my hand as I yawned widely. "Maybe I should get some sleep now... I can wake up early tomorrow and continue playing Angels Online again tomorrow anyway," I thought. I switched my character to 'auto-train' mode and dragged my feet to the kitchen. I flicked the light switch on and opened the fridge, pulling out a carton of milk. I poured out a glass of milk for myself, accidently spilling some as I poured to much. Wrenching the cookie jar lid open and shoved a cookie into my mouth. I drained the glass of milk and dusted my hands before dragging my feet back to my room. I rubbed my weary eyes and flopped onto bed. I drifted off to sleep the minute my head touched the pillow.

< >Ring... Ring, ring... Ring... Ring, ring... My eyes flickered open. I stretched myself wearily and yawned widely. I instantly realized that the phone is ringing and sat up on my bed. As I reached out for the phone, the answerer came on. The voice that rang out from the answerer was obviously Angelica's. "Where are you Nicole?! I've been waiting for the past half an hour! You better come down to the bus stop right now!" Oh! I have clean forgotten that I have to go to the movies with Angelica today! I took a quick glance at the clock - 10.30 AM. Oops! The movie starts in fifteen minutes time and I have not even dressed yet! I quickly pulled on a T-Shirt and a pair of jeans and rushed out of the house.

< >When I got to the bus-stop, our meeting place, Angelica was sitting on the seat, tapping her feet impatiently. When I came, she immediately got up and glared at me. "Where were you?!" She scolded. I apologised to her and when I did, she put her hand to her mouth and started to get into a fit of giggles. I raised my eyebrow at her. "What?" I chided, obviously agitated. She lifted her finger and pointed at me, saying, "You must have just woke up, Nicole! Look at you, you did not even brush your hair! Your breath stinks too!" Oh no! I patted my hair down to as flat as I could possibly get it. "What now? Save me Angelica!" I wailed. Angelica dug her hand into her bag and pulled out a brush and a pocket mirror. "Lucky for you, I'm really vain," she teased, handing me the brush and the mirror. I looked into the mirror and brushed my hair vigorously. "It's alright now," Angelica laughed, handing me a strong mint Tic-Tac. I thanked her numerous of times as I munched on the tic-tac and got on the bus.
