    third set of news!

    1) 73 per cent of students who sat for the 'N' levels are eligible for Secondary 5 next year. The top student was Chinese national Chengkai of Yio Chu Kang Secondary School. Chengkai moved to Singapore from Shanghai in 2006 knowing very little English. But all that was behind the young man who mastered the language well enough to ace the 'N' Level exams with an aggregate of six. Also achieving an aggregate of seven were two top Malay students, Safiah Yahya and Muhammad Ihsan Salimi. Top Indian students, Pillay Aaron Ashley, Muhammad Aziz Firdaus and Sangareewari Silvam all had an aggregate of eight. This is the second year that they can skip the 'O' Level exams and start their ITE courses a year earlier. Bukit Panjang Government High School produced the top two students who sat for the Normal tech exam. Lim Shi Hui and Nurul Farhana Winarto Utomo both scored seven As. Their secret of success was simply hard work.

    Opinions :
Through the experience of these people, we can see that through hard work, we can scale greater heights! What's more, it is said that Chengkai managed to master English by watching Channel news asia and watching the programmes from Channel 5 often, which is vaguely what we are doing now! Encouragement from people around Chengkai is also behind his great score. Chengkai received much encouragement to speak English in front of his friends, and with their help, Chengkai improved. This also shows us that friends too are important in the academics to stand by your side and cheer you on as you work hard to improve! Chengkai is very lucky to have those kind of friends!

    2) AVA has lifted the suspension on the import of milk and milk products from China.
AVA said that it is satisfied with the control measures in place to ensure that milk and milk products imported from China are not contaminated with melamine. Products produced by approved establishments on or after December 18 will be allowed into Singapore. AVA said it will continue to monitor the products imported into Singapore to ensure that they are safe for consumption.

    Opinions :
Finally, the dairy products scare seems to be fading away as China milk products are now approved for consumption! Although AVA results show that no melamine have been used anymore, I'm still afraid that after AVA stops monitoring the products, China would start using melamine again. I hope that AVA would think of something so that China would never export melamine contaminated products again. I would suggest that they should monitor the products once a month to make sure that China is still faithful is exporting melamine-free products.
